Berlage Armchair

Hendrik Petrus Berlage didn’t like curves. In his younger years he tried to avoid curves as much as possible especially in his furniture design. This sideview of one of his later armchairs shows he is on the verge of lifting the curve ban. Also his way of constructing the declining back without having to bend the back shows here in a particular way.

Quartz Armchair

Quartz is a sofa designed by CRTL ZAK and Davide Barzaghi and is the result of applying a mathematical series to home furnishings.

Its two-dimensional beechwood structure – pentagons and hexagons – develops three-dimensionally in space thanks to the volumising effect of the natural fiber upholstery.

Materials: solid evaporated beech wood ext. frame; water based polish, walnut rusted grey finish; natural oil and officinal herb based foam padding; aluminium joints, handmade polished.

Relax Armchair by Frans Molenaar

Last Friday Frans Molenaar, a famous Dutch fashion designer passed away sadly. I hadn’t any idea he was into chair design until this news started spreading around. The photo shows Frans who became 74 years in a yellow version of his relax armchair.

Hans Wegner’s 100th Birthday anniversary in the Copenhagen Design Museum with the title “Wegner – Just One Good Chair”, an exhibition till December 12, 2014, where I took this photo.

I can testify this really is a good chair. My dad had one and I sat in it frequently when he was alive.
