Panels Chair by Sebastien Wierinck 2
Sebastien Wierinck has developped a new puzzle chair which can be put together very simply because of the very precise cutting of the joints.

And you know what? I like puzzle chairs…I started this blog with one:-)

nina_saunders_smoothl

I was still pondering whether I would like to be identified with “chair porn”, because I am really tempted: “Sex Sells”!

I did a couple of “Image Googles” with terms in the neighborhood of Chair Porn. Then I came across the Wrong Distance blog that pointed me to Nina Saunders. Wrong distance had coined this chair Chair Porn, but I prefer Puzzle Chair, because I started this blog with a puzzle chair.
Final decision: I’ll not use the term “porn char” as part of a series.

Do stay tuned for more work of Nina Saunders who’s been around chairs for quite a while already!

Nina Saunders was born in Odense, Denmark in 1958 and trained at Central St Martin’s, London. Currently she works in London
More links: Sculpture UK. She’s exhibiting in the 2009 Venice Biennial as part of the Danish Pavillion. Also at Andrehn Schipjenko and at The Apartment in Greece.

Tight Stool - Diane Steverlynck
The Tight Stool by Belgian designer Diane Steverlynck is in fact a puzzle of several pieces held together by a tight rope. Hence the name.

Cardboard Puzzle Chair (with 2 meanings) by Eric Ku:

An inspiration from the American contemporary artist Joseph Kosuth, One and Three Chair.

Instead of giving a new definition, I redefined the concept of a chair by using the alphabet. One is able to construct a chair by assembling the redesigned alphabet.

And here Joseph Kosuth’s One Two Three Chair installation that Eric used as his inspiration:

Kosuth’s work is all about meaning:
1) The word chair explained 2) A photo of a chair an 3) a real chair, all put together in one installation.

Two Pack Slot Chair by Studio Raw

I’ve cut and pasted this 2pac slot chair photo from Studio Raw‘s site. I would love to have a better one.

The chair comes as a flat pack, you only need a mallet to put it together.

Rawstudio was founded in 2004 by Nick Rawcliffe.

Chairfix Junior

Ben Wilson has designed the Chairfix, a chair you can customize any way. The chair is cut from a flat plywood sheet, and the 2d parts are assembled into a chair. The new Chairfix Junior is now available for children at Buisjes En Beugels.

Thin is in. Powder-coated steel ships flat and folds along laser-cut lines to create a dynamic and comfortable chair. As skinny as a supermodel, yet far more sturdy. Available in two glossy tone-on-tone colors, and satin black and glossy red.

About Blu Dot
Blu Dot furniture was founded by John Christakos, Charles Lazor, and Maurice Blanks. The firm began as a loose collaboration of three college friends trained in architecture and art, based on the premise that design should be affordable. The partners chose furniture as the subject of interest and opened a studio and operations in Minneapolis in 1996. Blu Dot has begun to realize their vision with a collection of over 40 furniture pieces that are both elegantly abstract and unambiguously functional. Blu Dot pieces are in the permanent collections of several museums, have been seen on the sets of well-known television shows such as Friends and ER, and have won numerous national and international awards. The furniture collection is distributed around the world.

Take a look at the diverse collection of residential and commercial seating by La Cividina of Italy. Many of their modular seating systems, sofas, and armchair offerings are used extensively in hotels and office environments, but just may find a home in your living room.

For the next few weeks l’ll be posting about NO Design and its products. This Brazilian design office was created by a group of friends who met at college, a few years ago. Since then, all of their creations are nothing but a huge success. TANGRAN CHAIR – with the purpose of being an ecologically correct and accessible alternative for the lower classes, this chair's premise was to make good use of the OSB sheet and to reduce the number of cuts in its manufacture. The cut made for the chair's sides automatically results in the cut for the seat and the back, minimizing the expense of raw material, of the manufacturing process, avoiding waste. The chair's assembly is very easy: only eight screws for it to be ready.
